Check Samples

What are Check Samples?

Check Samples are samples with known value that laboratories can use to evaluate their performance at any given time. Check samples can be given in two modes:

1. Proficiency mode: The sample is presented with information about available tests and methods but NOT about the acceptable answers for those tests. This way a laboratory can obtain the check sample, and perform the test without prior knowledge about the expected result.  When the laboratory has completed the test, the results are submitted to IFM, who can supply a certificate of evaluation within 2 to 3 working days. This is equivalent to a mini-proficiency test with the benefit of having timing that suits the laboratory's convenience.

2. Calibration check mode: The sample is presented with information about available tests and methods and also the acceptable results for the tests. The laboratory conducts the test with knowledge about the expected result, and can use their results immediately to make adjustments to their in-house procedures.

Check samples are available in sets for food microbiology, water microbiology and electrical safety tests.
